Content: The course will aim to cover the fundamental skills required to practice competently as an entry-level clinical pharmacist. The focus will be on general adult inpatient services, but the skills and principles are transferable to specialized adult and paediatric services. Topics to be covered will include: structuring the clinical review of prescriptions, systematic medicines reconciliation, accurate documentation of clinical interventions, clear communication with the wider multidisciplinary team, and basic medicines information skills, with a particular focus on key issues for both general medical and surgical patients.

Provisional Timetable (may be subject to change)

The material in this course is similar to our previous clinical skills days - if you have previously attended, please allow others the opportunity to attend this one.

Structure:  The course will be delivered using a blended learning approach, including a mixture of lecture material, shared learning cases, and group discussions.  You will be expected to engage in some interesting moderated discussions - please come prepared to share your thoughts, regardless of experience level!

Fees:  A non-refundable nominal course fee of €5 will be charged for registration.  In addition to the course content, and at no additional cost to you, refreshments, lunch, a casual networking dinner and accommodation at the Clayton Hotel Liffey Valley on the evening of Tuesday 17th November, as well as breakfast on Wednesday 18th  prior to that day's sessions, will be included with your registration.

Accommodation: Overnight accommodation at the Clayton Hotel will be provided for all attendees on the night of Tuesday 17th November 2026. Please do not contact the hotel directly or you may be charged for the room - the HPAI will furnish them with names for room allocation.  We would encourage you to avail of this so that you do not miss out on any of the course events, and can get to know your peers in a more relaxed environment on Tuesday evening, but if you do not intend on staying overnight, please email education@hpai.ie to advise as early as possible so that the rooms can be released.

Transport: Note that transport/parking will not be subsidised by the HPAI, but may be available through your local hospital if they have an education support fund.
