European countries with decreased consumption of antimicrobials have decreased resistant bacteria.

The fourth joint report from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has shown that European countries that reduce consumption of antimicrobials in animals and humans see a reduction in antimicrobial resistant bacteria.

The Report is available from the EMA

In response the EAHP calls on National Governments and health system managers to use the specialist background and knowledge of hospital pharmacists in multi-professional stewardship teams and other forms of governance in the hospital and community setting.
